Welcome!

We are currently moving files to this new site. If you would like to see the 2021 events, please visit here.

Note: there has been a date change for one of our events ... 2022

Beginnings:

In 2015, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission released its report: 94 Calls to Action.

In 2016, Rev Canon Dr Murray Still endeavoured to respond to the calls addressed to churches (48, 49, 59, 60) and approached parishioners (settlers) of his two parishes (St James  and the Church of St Stephen and St Bede) and Indigenous community members (including Epiphany Indigenous Anglican Church) to join him. We opted to host events throughout the month of June, which we referred to as "Indigenous Awareness Month".

We called our program A Learning Journey.

These events were intended to help non-Indigenous people learn about Indigenous culture, including medicine and spirituality ... to bring Indigenous and non-Indigenous people together on a common path ... to foster mutual respect and care.

Originally reaching just these parishes, the events grew to draw people from all across Winnipeg. In 2020, as a result of gathering restrictions, we were forced to present them via internet ... as a result, our keynote speaker, Niigaan Sinclair, reached people from across the country!

Father Murray retired from St James at the end of 2020, so that parish itself is no longer represented on the committee, but its community supports this program and some parishioners are on the committee as concerned individuals.
